Space Between

Yumi Takeuchi, Paul Hommage

«Space between» presents two animation loops, projected on two marble plates. These were polished to let pass the light, letting pictures visible from both sights and showing a clean and an altered version of the animation loops. Videos represent a laborious activity parallel to the stop-motion process. Sanding plate and hitting stones process are revealed within the objects of their activity, creating a « mise en abyme » between virtual representation and actual display screen. Then, objects gathered from Akiyoshidai’s land are used as reflectors, dispatching light fragments through the room, reorganizing the display set. A permanent sound of rain, falling on cut bamboos proposes a reflection about how limestone continuously evolves and reshapes through water.
